Hi RAAM Fans ...

Welcome to the RAAM Updates!! It's been a really big day and RAAM is off to
another great start!!

Chuck Bramwell from Irvine, California, here reporting in ...

All credit for this work should go to RAAM Headquarters manned by the SCOR
Club and headed by Larry Mahrenholtz. The Web Site is totally awesome and if you
don't have Internet Access, you need to get it in order to really see what
each rider is doing through each time station, etc. Check out:
http://www.RAAMOnline.com

This year, my reports will only have HOT ITEMS identified for those MAJOR
changes in the race. (Last year, everything was a HOT ITEM which quickly
got out of control!!)

This initial report is too early in the race to have any HOT ITEMS!!

The weather was beautiful for the start of the 1999 Race Across America. Unlike
past years where it has been very hot and smoggy at the start of RAAM, this year
it was clear blue skies and cool temps. The riders are going through Indio
on this update with a temperature of about 106 degrees according to:
http://www.weather.com/weather/cities/us_ca_indio.html
which is 10-15 degrees cooler than previous years.

The forecast for Flagstaff, Arizona for tomorrow is for Isolated Thunderstorms
with a low of 52 and a high of 82 according to:
http://www.weather.com/weather/cities/us_az_flagstaff.html

These results may not line up on your CRT because of the Proportional Font
being used -- Copy them from here and Paste them into your Word Processor with
a Courier font and they will appear in columns.

P.S. On a personal note, I was once again honored to be able to Lead the Solo
Riders out today from the Holiday Inn in Irvine to the Real Start, 26 Miles into the
route.
I will be posting my photos to a Web Page real soon!!
