great start!!

Back by popular demand, here are the HOT ITEMS:
Hot Item -- Gerry Tatrai, The Wonder From Down Under (Australia), holds a 12
Minute lead on Seana Hogan at Time Station 3 (Calipartria, CA), 198.15 miles
into the race.
Hot Item -- No one has Dropped Out of the Race yet. However, Tomas Celta, the
first Czech rider to race in RAAM, may be running into problems as he is only
through Time Station 1 so he is at least 115 miles behind the leaders.
Hot Item -- Weather conditions on this First Day were warm with 92 Degrees at
Juniper Flats in 2:00 P.M. PST -- actually this was cool compared to 112
Degrees
at the same location one week ago!! Much more on this to follow.
Hot Item -- Team Gustavo RMO is a 2 Man Relay Team from Brazil and currently
leads the overall field passing through Time Station 3 six minutes before
Gerry
Tatrai.
Hot Item -- Aldo Calandro was issued a 15 minute time penalty for failing to
stop at stop sign RP#51, called in by Mike Roark.
Hot Item -- Hansgeorg Haus from Germany was issued a warning by Tracie Holmes,
did not pull vehicle completely off road when assisting rider.
Hot Item -- Gerry Tatrai was issued a warning at RP# 040 urinating while on
the bike. (Editors Note: I think Gerry was smoking so fast, he didn't have time
to stop!!)
Hot Item -- Giovanni Zilioli from Italy was issued a 30 minute time penalty
for failing to stop at a red stop light at RP# 042, called in by Mike Roark. He
was also issued a 15 minute time penalty for failing to stop at stop sign at RP#
038, called in by Mike Roark.
All credit for this work should go to RAAM Headquarters manned by the SCOR
Club and headed by Larry Mahrenholtz. The Web Site is totally awesome and if you

P.S. On a personal note, I was honored to be able to Lead the Solo Riders out
today from the Holiday Inn in Irvine to the Real Start, 26 Miles into the
route.
I will be writing up my "out of body" experience and am in the process of
posting some photos to a Web Page.
So how fast do these cyclists go out from the Real Start?
Real Fast.
Blazingly Fast.
I have a High Heart Rate with my AT at 170-175 and a Max of 202.
I saw 190 then 195 then 201 as I tried to hold with the lead pack up Paseo
Grande which is the first climb at Mile 30.
Many of them did that climb in their Big Ring!! (BTW, for Seanah, that's her
57 Tooth Chainring!!)
They were SMOKIN' ... I mean really SMOKIN' ...
and to think: they had only 2,870 Miles to go ...
