CARMEL VALLEY DOUBLE ADDED TO 2016 CALIFORNIA TRIPLE CROWN SERIES

The Carmel Valley Double Century has been added to the 2016 California Triple Crown Schedule.

The ride will be held on 8/27/16. All of the dates have been added to the California Triple Crown Ride Calendar at

http://caltriplecrown.org/CTC_Calendar_aspx/Default.aspx

It will be organized by the XeDapViet (XDV) Bike Club and lead by Dzung Dang.

"A scenic 200 mile route with ~14,000 ft. of climbing that traverses our California's exceptional and rugged coastline, the Coast Range Mountains of Monterey County and San Benito County"

The course starts and ends at the Contenta Inn in Carmel Valley - a sublime pastoral river valley nestled into the towering Santa Lucia range, and is one of the finest wine growing regions in California.

After leaving Carmel Valley, you will be riding along Pacific Coast Highway heading south toward Big Sur and onto Lucia before climbing over the famous Nacimiento-Ferguson Rd. to Jolon - Lockwood. Lunch will await you at mile 110 in Bryson - Hesperia located in the beautiful rolling hills between Lake San Antonio and Lake Nacimiento.

You will then be challenged by the second big climb of the course to Cahoon Summit. After cresting Cahoon Summit, you will award yourself with a 17 mile descend back to the finish at the Contenta Inn.

Allan Erbes wrote: "This was a challenging course with some amazing scenery and surprisingly minimal traffic, even along the Hwy 1 section due to the early start. The road conditions were very good with some caution required on the descent down from the top of Nacimiento. Bright lights and battery capacity for several hours is essential on this ride, especially for the San Lucas to Carmel Valley section. Overall this was an amazing ride."

Kirsten McDaniel wrote: "Very scenic traveling down the coast and getting around the Hunter Liggett Military base. Other than the bumpy road from King City to Greenfield, the course was awesome. Moderate traffic on Hwy 1 and low traffic everywhere else. Loved the ride and route!! Ride has quite a bit of climbing but not too difficult. Will come more prepared for final descent in the cold and dark next time. With the lack on sunlight, start time of 4 am would be beneficial to avoid the chilly evening temps on the 17 mile descent to the finish."

The XeDapViet Club is committed to organizing the Carmel Valley Double for many years to come.
